Circa April 2012 - I purchased my first iPhone. I am a hacker at heart and have rooted, cracked, and home brewed all of my previous smartphones but I wanted to keep my iPhone clean. Jump forward to today and I am finding that I miss a few features of Android: widgets, customization and themes.
This morning I went on a quest to find a way to jailbreak my iPhone. Based on experiences with Android HTC and Palm phones, I was hesitant because those processes to gain root access were sometimes overly complicated, requiring command line coding. I have been an iMore reader for a long time and knew they recently posted about iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak methods. I decided to try the Greenpois0n Absinthe 2.0 method. Really this process couldn't have been easier.
1. Sync and backup iPhone with iTunes
2. Download and install Greenpois0n Absinthe 2.0 (the installation looks like it extracts files)
3. Launch absinthe.exe with the iPhone plugged in
4. Click Jailbreak
5. Done!
How easy! I am new to Cydia and haven't installed a thing yet but I plan to add widgets for weather and settings. Also maybe some theming.
